The picturesque town of São Brás de Alportel is about to get a spanking new main square and general urban face-lift.
São Brás council has awarded construction company José de Sousa Barra & Filhos Lda a €135,000 contract to renew the Praça da República.
The municipality says it considers the work “essential” for creating a more dynamic local economy.
Praça da República is located in the town’s centre. After the work, it will be equipped with an 85-lot parking area, a parking area for bicycles, a variety of green areas and pedestrian paths, and also a leisure space with bars.
“The renovation of this square is a follow-up to all the renovation and modernisation work that the municipality has developed to improve infrastructures that contribute to the wellbeing of our local residents,” the municipality declared in a press release.
The council also revealed that renovation work would go ahead at Largo de São Sebastião and Avenida da Liberdade and that a new park, Parque das Amendoeiras, will soon be created.
