LOULÉ CÂMARA has organised its ninth festival of ancient music, featuring medieval to 18th century music performed and sung in various locations around the county.
The first of these events will take place on September 15 at the Igreja Matriz de Alte with music played by the flute ensemble from the centre of artistic expression of Loulé, directed by Francisco Rosado.
On September 22, there will be a show entitled Mulheres Barroco Dança, Baroque women dance at the Cine-Teatro Louletano, with works by composers including Campra, F. Couperin and Corelli.
Amsterdam’s Loeki Stardust Quartet will be performing La Lusignuola, a Baroque performance on September 29 at the Igreja Matriz de Loulé.
Celebrations
World music day on October 1 will be celebrated at the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição in Quarteira with Medieval music from the group Amar contra o silêncio.
Another Baroque concert will take place on October 7 at the Centro Cultural de S. Lourenço called La Cascade, a arte da Chaconne. Later that day, there will be a concert playing music from the end of the Renaissance and Baroque periods at the Igreja Paroquial de Querença.
The musical festivities will end on October 13 at the Igreja de S. Francisco in Loulé with a performance encompassing the songs and dance music of Europe between the 16th and 17th centuries. Each concert, which is free to the public, will begin at 9.30pm except the performance on October 7 in S. Lourenço which will start at 4pm.
