Artists’ invasion at Lagoa historic winery

A new exhibition of contemporary art is currently showing at Galeria Arte Algarve in Lagoa’s historic winery.

A total of 50 painters, sculptors and creators are involved in OPEN IX, including new names to the gallery, like BJ Boulter, a veteran of commercial films, and Catarina Alves, a young student from Belas Artes in Lisbon, who contributed a hanging sculpture entitled ‘Por Fios’.

Galeria Arte Algarve is the largest privately-owned art space in Portugal and its aim has always been to make art and culture “really happen” in the Algarve.

Gallery owner Rolf Osang said: “There are so many talented artists here. We need to promote them and raise the image of the Algarve as a place beyond just sun, sand and sea.

The show will now run every day from 10am to 6pm, with a break at lunchtime between 1pm to 2pm. Admission is free.
