Two people have been arrested by the PSP police on suspicion of “cash trapping” at an ATM in Vila Real de Santo António.
A spokesman for the PSP said: “A customer, while using the ATM to make a withdrawal, did not receive the money. He contacted us immediately and we sent a patrol team to the site.
“We mounted a surveillance action and a couple was caught when they were taking the money trapped in the ATM.”
The couple, a man aged 21 and a woman aged 23, both of Romanian nationality, are alleged to have glued a ruler to the slot of the ATM to trap the notes.
They will now be presented at court on July 21.
