Banif Bank will be closing 40 branches in Portugal in the next two years, leading to several staff dismissals.
Jorge Tomé, executive president of Banif, did not confirm how many employees would be dismissed but said that each branch had three to four staff, which meant a total of 160 people.
He added that the bank was now preparing the “strategic plan to apply for the State’s recapitalisation scheme”.
