A 37-year-old Ukrainian man was arrested in Lagoa in the early hours of Sunday morning for alleged drink driving and attempting to bribe police officers.
Two GNR officers noticed a vehicle zigzagging across the road in the early hours and stopped it. When questioned, the driver, who was accompanied, tried unsuccessfully to avoid the breathalyser test, which revealed a breath alcohol level of 2.92mg/l (the legal limit in Portugal is 0.5mg/l).
This led to the driver’s arrest, but not before he attempted to bribe the officers by forcing an envelope with 200 euros into one of their hands.
