Enrico Barnes, the 24-year-old Englishman who was reported missing in the Algarve, has been found and taken to Faro Hospital, an interpreter for his family told the Resident.
Rico, from England, had last been in contact on Saturday, August 23, and was reported missing after he disappeared around Faro and the Albufeira area, including the old town and strip.
His family had issued an urgent appeal for information, fearing he was experiencing an episode of psychosis, possibly triggered by alcohol and lack of sleep.
However, a local resident acting as an interpreter for the family told the Resident that Enrico has now been located and is receiving medical care at Faro Hospital.
Earlier today, a GNR Faro spokesperson, Captain António Ramos, confirmed that Enrico had been taken to hospital last week after reportedly suffering a psychotic episode, believed to have been caused by withdrawal from his schizophrenia medication.
“We were very worried but are now happy he has been found,” the interpreter, Isabelle Simões, told the Resident, adding that the family is grateful to everyone who helped the searches for ‘Rico’.
The Resident is still trying to confirm exactly how Enrico Barnes was taken to the hospital again. According to Simões, it was the hospital that contacted the family informing them that ‘Rico’ was in their care.
UK police and the British Embassy have already been informed of the latest developments, she added.
