Cadburys recalls chocolate

CHOCOLATE MAKER Cadburys has recalled 11 chocolate types from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Australia because of fears of contamination with melamine.

A spokesman from the company said they were still investigating how much melamine was traced in the products already identified.

The preliminary tests, according to the same source, only found the renal poisoning substance in the products from the company’s Beijing factory.

All products from the UK or elsewhere are not included in the list of recalled items.

Officials in China say a total of 50,000 babies have been affected by the melamine contamination since the beginning of September. Several people have already been arrested.

The scandal came to light earlier this month when baby milk powder from the Sanlu Group was found to contain the industrial chemical melamine.

Melamine is used in making plastics and is high in nitrogen. Milk producers involved in the scandal were using it to make baby products look as if they had higher protein content than they actually had.
