A FALL IN orders for people carriers has forced Lisbon-based car producer Autoeuropa to suspend production of two models for five days.
Work on making the Volkswagen Sharan and the Seat Allambra is due to resume on October 16.
The company says 550 of the multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) models will be lost as a result.Autoeuropa, which is the biggest car manufacturer in the country, is a consortium between Ford and Volkswagen. It says the shutdown will not affect the workers’ benefits and will use time in lieu owed to them. Production of the two models is scheduled to end by 2010.
