Carvoeiro pays tribute to Fishermen with sculpture

The symbolic sculpture embodies the strength, courage, and resilience of those who braved the sea and supported the community.

The Lagoa and Carvoeiro Parish Council unveiled a new sculpture honouring fishermen, a central figure in the identity and history of Praia do Carvoeiro.

The sculpture—placed on a hilltop overlooking Carvoeiro Beach and the sea—represents the strength, courage, and resilience of those who, for generations, braved the sea and supported the community with their labour.

Artist Luísa Aleixo, who created the original design, conceived the project, which was brought to life by sculptor José Carlos Almeida, with production managed by Oficina Parques Éden.

The sculpture combines maritime and symbolic elements, emphasising the connection between tradition and modern life in the fishing village.

With this tribute, the Lagoa and Carvoeiro Parish Council seeks to preserve collective memory, cherish traditional knowledge, and celebrate those who are part of the soul of Praia do Carvoeiro.
