A PROJECT to install a CCTV system in Praia da Rocha, Portimão, is at risk because of restrictions imposed by the national data protection commission (CNPD) for cameras in public areas.
Portimão Câmara, which has been waiting two years for authorisation for the installation in the county’s main tourist area, has been restricted to only placing the cameras in car parks.
The decision was made by a majority by seven judges of the CNPD, who authorised between eight and 10 of the 40 cameras requested.
“I am so disappointed,” said Portimão Câmara President, Manuel da Luz, who added that he was due to meet with the PSP police to analyse the options that are available.
