Adega do Cantor, the winery run by Sir Cliff Richard and the Birch family in Guia, has released the much-anticipated Vida Nova Espumante, a sparkling rosé wine, in celebration of Sir Cliff’s 50 years in the music industry.
This is the first sparkling rosé to be created at the boutique winery and uses Syrah grapes picked in 2008, which have then been left to ferment slowly at low temperatures before being bottled using the Methode Champenois, which allows further fermentation within the bottle.
It had been hoped that the wine would have been ready to sell earlier in the year but it is now available and coincides well with Sir Cliff Richard’s 70th birthday celebrations.

Rebecca Birch from the Adega do Cantor told the Algarve Resident: “When the public first found out that we were making this limited edition sparkling wine, we had many enquiries and due to demand we made it available to pre order online or from the winery. “People have been very excited about this new wine, especially because it is linked so closely to Sir Cliff Richard and fans of his have been eager not to miss out on the chance to have a bottle.”
She added: “There are a couple of discreet references to Sir Cliff Richard and his 50 years in the music industry on the bottle, including the number 50 on the neck of the bottle and Sir Cliff’s signature has been made into a pattern on the foil covering the cork.”
The wine, of which 11,000 bottles are on sale, is described as being salmon in colour with an intense and creamy texture followed by a persistent and refreshing finish.
The wine is available to buy directly from the Adega do Cantor in Guia on a first come, first served basis and costs 12.50 euros for a single bottle or 20 euros for a box with two bottles.
