Algarve resident Clive Jewell has been named as the new British Consul to the Algarve and is due to take up his post at the Consulate in Portimão on Monday, July 19.
For more than 30 years, Clive Jewell has worked in the travel and tour operating industry and has an extensive overseas background after living and working in Spain, Greece, Italy and Portugal.
He has been living in the Algarve for the past 21 years and is fluent in both Portuguese and Spanish while also having basic Italian language skills.
As the British Consul in Portimão, Clive will be responsible for providing consular services to British nationals in the Algarve and leading the consular team which helped over 7,000 British citizens during 2009.
Busy office
British Ambassador to Portugal, Alex Ellis said: “I am delighted that Clive will be heading up the experienced consular team in Portimão. It is one of the busiest consulates in the world and we strive to provide an excellent service to British residents and visitors to the Algarve.
“Clive’s background in customer service, as a British resident living in the Algarve and his experience in the tourism sector will help ensure that the Consulate in Portimão continues to provide British nationals with the best support, building on the good work of Paul and his team.”
Clive Jewell is replacing outgoing Consul Paul Rodwell, who will be moving to Spain to head up the British Consulate in Alicante after working at the Consulate since September 2008.
