Continuing care unit opens in Estoi

A new continuing care facility with a 40-bed capacity was inaugurated in Estoi, Faro, on October 7, representing a total investment of approximately €2.5 million.

The new health unit, which will be run by the Algarve Social Development Foundation, is spread out through an area of 3,161sqm distributed among three floors and an outside space of 1,070sqm.

The construction of the facility was financed by the Ministry of Health, which contributed €750,000 as part of the Modelar II programme.

According to a press release by the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve, the unit “strengthens the number of available beds, thus rigorously and sustainably continuing the reinforcement of the integrated continuing care network in the Algarve region”.

One more unit is expected to be inaugurated by the end of the year. It will be located in Aljezur and will add 25 beds to the Algarve’s health service. In August, Castro Marim also inaugurated a continuing care health facility in the parish of Azinhal, which at the time increased the region’s hospital long-term bed count by 30 and represented a €2.4 million investment, €750,000 of which was provided by the Ministry of Health.
