I have been reading the ongoing series of letters about crime in the Algarve with great interest.
We originally lived in Sitio dos Quartos at the top end of Vale Formoso. By the time we moved from there, some three years ago, almost every house we could see had been burgled, some more than once.
In some cases, the burglars had clearly been very professional as they had disconnected the houses from the main electricity supply to negate alarm/security systems. In another case, on a second visit, the burglars dismantled all the security screens and took them away as well. I am waiting for the English press to take notice of what is happening and then the current depressed property/ tourism business will take an even bigger hit!
