Associação Safe Communities Algarve (SCA) is organising its first crime prevention seminar for English-speaking residents in the Lisbon area.
The event is being held in association with the British Consulate in Portugal, the PSP police for the Lisbon Metropolitan area and the GNR. The seminar is taking place on Wednesday, December 4 at the Centro Cultural de Cascais, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, and is aimed at English-speaking residents living in the Lisbon, Cascais and Sintra areas.
The seminar’s objectives are:
To help create greater awareness among the foreign community of the work of the participating organisations concerning crime prevention and public safety;
To advise residents of what crime prevention measures to take in the lead up to the Christmas period, relevant to current crime trends;
To encourage residents to look out for and report suspicious activities to police;
To provide an opportunity for residents to meet with the commanders of the PSP and GNR in their areas and ask any questions they may have.
The event will be opened by Cascais Mayor Carlos Carreiras and presenters will include Claudia Marques, Consular Officer at the British Consulate in Lisbon, who will talk about what support is available to victims of crime in Portugal and what the consulate can do for them.
David Thomas, president of SCA, will give a presentation on the work of his association and engaging the community in support of the police. There will also be presentations by PSP and GNR Commanders regarding their work.
The PSP representative will be a senior officer of the Criminal Investigation Division who will talk about “Engaging the Community Assistance in Crime Prevention”.
Following the presentations, there will be a panel discussion where those attending can raise any questions they may have.
The Centro Cultural de Cascais is located at Avenida Rei Humberto II de Itália, S/N
2750-800 Cascais. There is an underground car park close to the Centro Cultural.
