Deadly roads

TAVIRA CÂMARA President Macário Correia has blamed the 50 per cent rise in road deaths in the Algarve since last year on poor road conditions and has called for immediate repairs on the EN125.

The Algarve and Santarém, near Lisbon, registered the most road deaths in the first eight months of this year than any other district in Portugal, according to the National Road Safety Authority. A total of 49 people were killed, whereas 32 people died during the same period last year.
