THE BODY of a Portuguese fisherman aged around 50 was found floating in the Ria Formosa near the Fuzeta area at 8am on Tuesday after his family reported him missing at 2am.
A spokesman for the local maritime authority said: “We don’t think he drowned through swimming in the water because he was fully clothed”.
It is believed the man suffered a sudden illness and fell out of his boat.
The cause of death had not been identified at the time The Resident went to press. The body was taken to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Faro, where an autopsy will be carried out.
