I felt very happy earlier this year when you published articles saying that police were clamping down on crime in the Algarve as it had reached a very serious level.
The comment below was posted on Albufeira Forum today and it is quite worrying.
Potential visitors to the region will be put off by something like this which, of course, is the last thing the Algarve needs right now. Is it really so bad and do the police turn a blind eye?
Albufeira Forum: “I am just home from two weeks in Albufeira and I’m disgusted with the amount of drug dealers in both the old and the new town. Every day and night when I was out, myself and my girlfriend were constantly approached by dodgy characters selling “hash smoke or charlie”. After four or five days of this, I became very annoyed and decided to point out to the guards in the old town one of the local dealers. The response of the guard was to tap me on the back, smile and walk off!”
