MORE THAN 100 bombeiros and Civil Protection officers were dispatched on Saturday to 31 rain-related incidents, mostly in the Monte Gordo area.
According to Vítor Vaz, the Captain of Faro’s Centro Distrital de Operações de Socorro (CDOS), the eastern Algarve was worst hit by the storms with Faro, Olhão, Vila Real de Santo António, Tavira, Loulé and São Brás registering flooding. “The floods were due mainly to the accumulation of rain water and insufficiency or break down of drainage systems,” said Sr. Vaz.
