Electricity rise

While average domestic electricity prices fell by 1.5 per cent in the European Union in the second half of 2009, Portugal registered an increase of 4.5 per cent.

The data was revealed on May 28 by Eurostat, the body responsible for EU statistics, and shows the average cost on Portugal was 15.94 euros per 100 kW/h, a rise of 4.5 per cent compared to the same period in 2008.

The EU statistics showed that gas prices fell across the European Union by an average of 16 per cent. In Portugal, this fall was 5.5 per cent in the second half of 2009 over the same period in 2008.
