Emergency landing at Faro

A TECHNICAL problem forced a Thomas Cook plane to make an emergency landing at Faro airport on Wednesday afternoon.

Flight TCX037K was flying from Gatwick to Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands.

The Boeing 757 had 210 people on board, including the crew. All were forced to stay overnight at hotels in Faro.

A yellow alert was activated by the airport and air navigation authority, Aeroportos e Navegação Aérea (ANA), putting the civil protection and fire departments on call.

However, it was deemed unnecessary to call them into action as the aircraft was under control and the passengers, none of whom needed medical assistance, remained calm.

Engineers at Faro Airport managed to fix the plane over Wednesday and Thursday.

Contrary to what had been initially thought by the operator Thomas Cook, which planned to call for another aircraft to come from the UK, the passengers were allowed to continue onto their holiday destination on the same Boeing 757 on Thursday afternoon.
