SKILLED WORKERS are already being sought for the proposed car racing track to be built in Portimão after an agreement signed on Friday.
Parkalgar, which owns the track, and Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional (IEFP), the national employment agency, made an agreement for cooperating in the new car racing project. The workers for the construction of the car racing track will all be selected by the IEFP.
Around 3,000 workers might be selected for the project through the IEFP branches in the Portimão area. The agreement signed by both entities aims to give preference to workers from the Portimão district and also the surrounding villages.
The car racing track will be built in Sítio do Escampadinho, in Mexilhoeira Grande and Parkalgar wants this project to be one of the most important in the Algarve region and in the country, with plans to attract top racing competitions.
The first stage of the construction works is to be completed by 2010 and includes the car track, a kart track, a resort with 160 touristic apartments and a road link to the A22. A five star hotel, a business centre for companies related to the car industry and a technological centre are part of the second stage of the project. The global investment is estimated in 200 millions euros, all of it coming from private investors.
