England’s football failures

Dear Editor,

My name is Will and I was born at 12.25pm on Saturday, June 12, 2010 in the green and pleasant county of Suffolk.

My Granddad has told me not to use the word ‘green’ as a goalkeeper of that name made a very big mistake in a certain game of football that very day. I was actually born in Ipswich where Sir Alf Ramsey and Sir Bobby Robson received international acclaim.

So I found it strange that the country I have been born in now has an Italian coach assisted by a coaching staff of five more Italians, all of whom have only a basic command of the English language. Incidentally mine’s not too good yet!

When the four teams to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup have coaches from their own countries, why does England pay huge amounts of money for failure?

I’ve been told not to expect that much pocket money! My Granddad says I could go and play for Olhanense, who have a man from Mozambique coaching them who speaks good English but I want to be bilingual.

I’ve also been told that in Spain there are more than 600 UEFA Grade ‘A’ coaches with more than 400 of them working within youth development. In England, there are just over 200 Grade ‘A’ coaches, none of whom work in youth development.

Now I’ve discovered the country is broke, child benefit has been frozen and there will be no new schools, but fortunately for Mr Capello, he will still get his 12 million Pounds Sterling over the next two years. It’s a strange world I’ve been born into.
