Enjoy an evening at the sand sculpture festival

This month, the international sand sculpture festival, FIESA 2006, at Pêra, is set to entertain its visitors with live music, as they wander round the impressive images and scenes.

Beginning at 9.30pm this evening (August 11), Fernando Aires will play the Portuguese guitar and at the same time on August 17, the Mo Jazz Trio will perform. A percussion free-for-all will take place on August 26, where anyone can bring their instruments along and participate in a jam session called the Project for a Thousand Drummers.

The sculptures, based on this year’s theme of Mythology, can be seen from 10am until midnight. They are even more impressive after dark, when different coloured lights are used to illuminate them.

The fourth edition of the festival has, so far, been a great success, with 35,000 tonnes of sand used to create many impressive scenes. The sculptures will be bulldozed in September and work will begin on next year’s theme, which is still to be announced. For more information, call 969 459 261 or visit www.fiesa2006.com
