ANTÓNIO PINA, President of the Região de Turismo do Algarve (RTA), the tourism board, wants more value to be given to the region’s low season and is currently preparing the entertainment programme for the winter.
“I have had a series of formal conversations with presidents of local câmaras, so that we can start thinking about organising medium sized events between October and May,” he said this week.
Each câmara will be responsible for organising a big event and then apply to the RTA to give it joint promotion. Guidelines are being drawn up to define what the RTA should and should not support.
Each day, the RTA receives more than 10 requests for support with events. With the new guidelines, these will be sorted more efficiently into those that conform to the criteria and those that do not.
“As President of the RTA, I have to think in regional terms and of events that are most attractive to internal and external tourists, raising the profile of the Algarve brand.”
