IN A major step towards joining the European Union, Serbia’s government ratified the EU’s Stabilisation and Association Agreement on Tuesday, with 139 votes against 26.
After this, all 27 EU member states must back the document, although some countries are still not satisfied with Serbia’s co-operation on war crimes issues.
The collapse of Serbia’s last government was partly due to the issue of joining the EU, although pro-EU parties were voted in with a significant majority in subsequent elections.
