Faro folklore festival

FOLKFARO 2007 continues until Sunday (August 26), where visitors can enjoy an oriental dance recital and a parade, among many other activities in the heart of Faro’s city centre.

Today’s (Friday’s) entertainment at the folklore festival is due to begin at 10.30am at the Municipal Library with children’s activities followed by entertainment at the Municipal Market at 11.30am. At 10pm, a medley of dances and songs will take place next to the port in Faro.

Tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) events are due to commence at 9.30pm with a parade of nations around Manuel Bivar garden, in the city centre, which will be followed by a medley of performances by three national folklore associations and two from abroad.

The festival will begin again on Sunday at 4.30pm at the Sé Church, with an ecumenical celebration, which is due to be followed later with a parade around the Manuel Bivar garden at 9.30pm. The closing ceremony will take place at Faro port, next to the garden at 10pm.

The event was first launched in 2003 and this fifth year promises to be better than the others with the help and support of four national folklore associations including Faro Folklore Group and six international groups from countries such as Russia, Czech Republic, Costa Rica, Venezuela and South Korea. Their focus is firmly rooted in colour, tradition and representation of their cultural heritage through song and dance.
