FARO DISTRICT Hospital is now an Algarve Central Hospital unit.
Secretário de Estado da Saúde (health secretary of State), Francisco Ramos, announced the change following its reclassification this week.
This new central designation will bring more public investment to the hospital, putting its services in a Grupo II category, the second most important in a list of five groups that evaluate the hospitals quality service.
Better services
For users of this regional medical unit, the reclassification should mean better services in areas such as genetics, allergies and immunology, vascular surgery, rheumatology and emergency.
As a Central Hospital, the Faro unit is now being prepared to join the group of Public Portuguese hospitals in the hands of private management based on profit criteria. This change is expected to happen before the end of 2007.
