Ferrari driver loses designer watch in late-night motorbike heist in Vilamoura

Thieves put gun to man’s head before racing off into darkness with watch of 'elevated value'

The risks of showing outward signs of wealth have been highlighted yet again in the Algarve’s Golden Triangle.

On Monday night, a man “trying to park his Ferrari” in a tourist complex found himself ‘surprised’ by two armed men on a motorbike.

The pair pointed a gun at the man’s head, and made off with the designer watch he was wearing.

The man had two young children inside the car, and thus appears to have given no resistance.

According to reports, the robbers also ‘demanded money’ but were ‘obliged to flee’, possibly because of other people/ vehicles approaching.

The motorbike used in this attack was “similar to those used by food delivery firms”, writes Correio da Manhã tabloid.

The victim has since reported the incident to the GNR, which has passed the case to PJ police, due to the fact that it involved a fire arm.

CM recalls that in January this year, a “luxurious mansion in Vilamoura was invaded by robbers who forced the owners to hand over elevated sums of money, as well as jewellery and other valuables. The thieves carried out their attack with their faces covered, and then fled”.

There have equally been other ‘high value’ heists in the area that to this day remain ‘unresolved’.
