Fire prevention

Operation Bravo, the national fire protection programme, began on June 1 with Vasco Franco, the secretary of state for civil protection, announcing that the delay in the national programme was due to weather conditions and it having “rained for almost the entire month of May”.

“This year volunteers with a detailed knowledge of forests will be targeted to take part in the operation instead of looking to the unemployed to fill these posts,” he said.

The next stage of the campaign, Operation Charlie, will begin on July 1 and will see a total of 56 aircraft dedicated to the prevention of fire in Portugal.
