A TOTAL of 43 million euros will be given to the Algarve fishing industry over the next seven years through European funds.
Part of the money will be spent on a port on the island of Culatra in the Ria Formosa nature reserve and construction is due to begin on August 1 and is expected to be completed in March 2008.
Most of the funds are due to be spent on the development of offshore fish farming and action groups will also be created with the objective of helping to resolve local issues and improve conditions for fishermen, according to Faro Câmara President José Apolinário.
