The 14-year-old son of PSD councillor Susana Gravato – found dead at her home in Gafanha da Vagueira (Vagos municipality) yesterday – has been arrested by PJ judicial police on suspicion of his mother’s murder.
In a statement, the PJ explains it has gathered ‘strong evidence of a crime of aggravated murder’.
As Expresso explains, “up till now, we do not know the exact circumstances that led to the death of Susana Gravato, who was in cardiorespiratory arrested when firefighters arrived at the scene”.
All that is clear is that Ms Gravato had been shot.
“Following the immediate investigation, it was possible to identify and collect various pieces of evidence and recover the firearm used, which belongs to the minor’s father,” the PJ statement adds.
The 14-year-old is to be brought before a judge for initial questioning at Aveiro court.
Vagos meantime is in ‘three days of municipal mourning’, in the memory and public recognition of his mother.
“At this time of grief, we extend our deepest condolences and sympathy to her family, friends, colleagues and all those who worked with her,” the municipality has written over social media.
A lawyer by profession, Susana Gravato, had been a member of the PSD since 1994.
In 2009, she was elected as councillor for the Vagos Primeiro movement, and more recently she served as a councillor in the outgoing executive (PSD), with responsibility for the environment, justice, general administration, social cohesion and health, among other areas.
