THE POPULAR Festa de Santa Maria is being celebrated in Ourique, in the Alentejo, with a weekend of music and events from August 14 to 16.
Performances by popular Portuguese bands, equestrian parades, a skate boarding tournament and youth games are all included in the programme of events.
The multi-use pavilion at the entrance to Ourique stages the music events and throughout the weekend showcases local business interests.
The Resident’s contributor for the area, photographer John Oliver, has been invited to stage an exhibition during the event, which will feature displays of photographs from around the region.
