A 24-HOUR traffic policing operation in the Algarve between August 23 and 24 resulted in 585 drivers being caught for driving offences and 17 arrested.
Of the driving offences detected, 39 were very serious and 133 were serious. Three drivers were arrested for driving without licenses and a further 49 were fined for speeding. A total of 54 people tested positive for drink driving, with 14 of them being arrested for being dangerously over the legal alcohol limit, which in Portugal is 1.20 grams of alcohol in the blood.
