Despite the inclement weather, a charity auction held in Quatro Estradas (Quarteira) on October 19 in aid of The New Goldra Dog Sanctuary proved to be a success, with more than €950 raised on the day.
A large variety of items were available for sale including furniture, furnishings, silverware, and china, all of which were donated by Goldra supporters.
Mark Monkman of Algarve Auction House got the bidding off to a roaring start, with the most frenzied bidding of the afternoon for the collections of sweeties donated by Katie Warr of Sweet Treats and Rraw Designs in São Brás.
Regina Zimmerman donated a voucher for four hours of cleaning and gardening services. Louis Dobson successfully outbid everyone else and has booked Regina to give his Harley Davison motorbike a good wash and polish.
This fun afternoon ended in glorious sunshine with satisfied punters returning home with their bargains.
The Goldra team would like to thank Algarve Computer Centre and Broadband Algarve for donating their premises for this event and Sheena Rawcliffe for her advice and help on the day.
Additional thanks go to Algarve Removals for providing boxes to transport the items and to Lennons Restaurant, Almancil, for coming to the rescue of organisers and providing the additional tables.
Goldra volunteers said: “The money raised from this event will enable us to obtain passports for five dogs to travel to their new homes in the UK.”
