Hope

Hours of laughter, chatting and fun,

Memories shared, experiences equal to none.

Thoughts and opinions, wishes

and dreams

No subject is too taboo or banal

it seems,

Feelings of familiarity and comfort eliminate each obstacle,

Creating the dream that eternal joy is possible.

In a flash, it comes crumbling down,

A kingdom lost, a king without

his crown.

An empty womb, barren and bare,

Leaving a void with no-one to care.

A moment of calm before the storm,

Until the realization that this is not the norm.

And then… anguish… bruising, debilitating pain,

Wheezing breath squeezing past a chest bound in chain.

Convulsive gasps, hot tears streaming down a contorted face

A body wracked in agony, a life thrown out of place.

Finally through exhaustion and eyes shut tight,

Slowly there surges a faint flickering light.

Time to stand, look forward, fight and be strong,

Past mistakes and life lessons to be learnt from.

Wishes are dreams and so they

will stay

Until a decision is made to clear the way,

For fulfilment and joy to be complete

In a world where dreams and reality don’t have to compete.
