September proved to be a positive month for tourism in the Algarve, with tourist accommodation units recording a global occupancy rate of 82.2%, 5.4% more than in the same month last year. The data was revealed this week by the Algarve hotels and resorts association AHETA.
Traditional tourist markets arriving in higher numbers were the British (+4.8%), Dutch (+12.6%), French (+18.1%) and Irish (+3.8%). Spanish visitors were down 10% in comparison to September 2012.
Geographically, the Carvoeiro / Armação de Pêra area had the highest increase in occupancy at 9.7%, followed by Albufeira (+6%) and Loulé (+5.9%).
Albufeira recorded the highest average occupancy rate at 85.7%.
According to types of tourist accommodation, four and five star tourist complexes registered the most significant increase in occupancy, at 7.5%, followed by three star tourist apartments with a rise of 6.7%.
Four star hotels and aparthotels recorded the highest occupancy rate at 86.4% and two star units the lowest at 68.9%.
