Dear Editor,
I refer to your article in February this year regarding the roadworks in Almancil (Algarve Resident, February 26).
As of writing this, July 5, the work is still far from completed and two out of the three access roads from Almancil to Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago are in a disgraceful condition.
How a town hall, Loulé, which virtually completely depends upon tourism and foreign residents, can allow this is beyond belief.
They do not even have the courtesy of putting up some kind of information as to what is going on (or rather not going on), who is responsible and whom to contact for further information. Complete arrogance and ignorance displayed by them.
To compound the problem here, in their great and unquestioned wisdom, some other authorities have decided that NOW is a good time to close off beaches for refurbishment.
For example, the beach in front of Dunas Douradas was closed over the whole weekend while they were pumping sand from dredgers and working with JCBs and Caterpillars.
Business people are tearing their hair out in frustration and NOBODY cares.
What is wrong with the Portuguese mentality that makes them totally ignore common sense as well as courtesy to those who have chosen to live here and those who have chosen the Algarve for their holidays?
Maybe it would be easier if they just left a box at the airport where visitors could leave their money and then go back home.
