HPA Group performs first Endoscopic Ear Surgery

This approach provides faster recovery, with less pain, a lower risk of complications, and no visible scarring.

Dr Vânia Henriques, a specialist in Otorhinolaryngology at the Grupo HPA Saúde, has recently performed the first Endoscopic Ear Surgery at HPA Alvor, marking a significant step forward in the surgical management of middle ear pathologies (see video below).

This is an innovative and minimally invasive technique that is transforming the treatment of certain conditions, such as tympanic membrane perforation, serous otitis media/effusion (glue ear), cholesteatoma, or small tumours of the middle ear.

Endoscopic Ear Surgery allows direct and detailed access to the internal structures of the ear through the ear canal, eliminating the need for external incisions. This approach provides faster recovery, with less pain, a lower risk of complications, and no visible scarring.

The technique also offers a magnified, “high-definition” view of the middle ear, enabling more precise interventions, even in anatomical areas that are difficult to access or visualise with a surgical microscope.

With this innovation, the Grupo HPA Saúde reinforces its commitment to clinical excellence, surgical safety, and the adoption of the most advanced medical techniques, always placing the patient’s well-being first.
