PICASSO’S ETCHING of The Winged Bull, which he dedicated to his friend the bullfighter Pablo Lalande, is just one of a number of articles that have been entered for the antiques auction organised by Friends of the Museum, on October 20 at the Museu do Trajo, São Brás.
Carmen Hoke, the event manager, is hoping that the auction of fine art, genuine antiques, porcelain, silverware and quality ornaments, will bring in buyers and sellers, not only from Portugal, but from the rest of Europe.
Carmen said: “What I want here is an auction of pieces of excellent quality.” She already has items including an Arturo Bual lithograph, a lithograph from the Palácio Real, Aranjuez, entitled Paradise Birds, a mixed composition entitled Lina and the Swan by famous Dutch painter, Klaus van der Locht and a watercolour attributed to David Cox Sr.
Also in the auction is a JJ Audubon lithograph, which is part of a collection of 28 and can be purchased separately.
Sellers can bring items to the New Gallery of the Cultural Centre within the grounds of the museum on October 15 and 16, from 10am until 2pm. Viewing will take place on October 19 between 10am and 6pm and the auction proper will take place between 10am and 5pm on October 20. Bar and light refreshments will be available on auction day.
