Attracting investors to Portugal is a government priority, said Economy Minister António Pires de Lima, just a day before the government’s first international roadshow.
The roadshow started in London on Monday and aims to show off Portugal as a valid option for foreign investment.
“Attracting investment is a government priority and this two-day mission is completely focused on that goal,” he said.
Pires de Lima stressed that Portugal is in the final stages of its adjustment programme and has been registering signs of economic recovery which “must” be shown to investors.
“Portugal is now a more competitive and attractive country for investment, a country where solid business opportunities with potential do exist.”
However, he explained that London is only the beginning.
“London is only the first stage of an international roadshow launched by the Ministry of Economy this year. Investment opportunities will be advertised to Portugal’s main commercial allies,” he said, such as London, Madrid, Paris, Berlin, Russia and the USA.In his trip to London, he was accompanied by Secretary of State Assistant to The Minister and of Economy Leonardo Mathias and Secretary of State for Innovation, Investment and Competitiveness Pedro Gonçalves, as well as the president of Portugal’s global trade and investment agency AICEP, Pedro Reis.
