Jellyfish

LIFEGUARDS AT several beaches near Torres Vedras on the west coast of Portugal, have reported an unusually high number of sightings of Portuguese man-of-war jellyfish.

The species is common in warm tropical waters and can be found in the Azores.

Their violet colour makes these jellyfish species very attractive to the eyes. Despite its beauty, Portuguese man-of-war jellyfish are more dangerous than normal jellyfish, causing painful burns when in contact with the skin.

Maritime Police are alerting tourists not to touch them.
