A dual-purpose seminar to inform eastern Algarve residents of the importance of crime and fire prevention in the community will take place at the Tavira Municipal Library on Wednesday, June 5 from 4pm to 6pm.
This will be the fifth in a series of crime prevention and community safety seminars organised by Safe Communities Algarve.
The seminar is being held ahead of the summer season to create public awareness on fire prevention and how the authorities deal with such incidents. To stress the importance of preventative action, the Deputy District Director of the Civil Protection authority has agreed to deliver a presentation.
The Mayor of Tavira, Jorge Botelho, will give a welcoming address, followed by presentations by Captain Carapinha, Commander of the GNR Tavira, Subcomissário Nuno Gonçalves, Commander of the PSP Tavira; Eng. Rui Graça, District Deputy Operations Director (ADOD) of the the Civil Protection Authority, Dora Coelho, Chief of Staff at Turismo do Algarve, Clive Jewell, British Vice Consul to the Algarve, and David Thomas, President of Safe Communities Algarve.
The seminar is in English and is aimed at helping residents have a greater understanding of the organisations involved and services they provide, ranging from crime prevention, policing, the GNR’s Safe Residence Programme and forest fire protection.
The library is located in the centre of Tavira at Rua da Comunidade Lusíada, 21.
