Newly-opened Italian restaurant La Bagattella sponsored Team Azerbaijan at the F1 Power Boat races held in Portimão on May 8 and 9.
Portuguese chef Eurico Guerreiro, owner of the restaurant based in Alvor, was introduced to the idea of sponsorship of the team through a Norwegian friend, Knut Rasmussen.
“Knut had been in Portimão and met some of Team Azerbaijan, including the only female pilot on the circuit, Marit Stromoy. When Knut discovered that Marit was from Norway, they struck up a conversation and found that Team Azerbaijan was seeking local sponsorship,” said Eurico Guerreiro.
“The more I leanred about the powerboats, the more interested I became and I wanted to be associated with this exciting sport,” he added.
The La Bagattella logo was displayed on the hull of the Team Azerbaijan boat and Marit piloted her way to seventh place by lap 20, however she was forced to retire from the race after her engine seized.
Marit Stromoy said: “We were really impressed by the reception, food and concept of La Bagattella. It was a pleasure to be associated with the business.”
