New walking path is expected to be completed by November 3
A new 1.4km pedestrian route along Lagoa’s scenic coastline is taking shape, due to link Rocha Brava and Praia do Carvalho.
The works will cost around €290,000 (plus VAT) and are expected to last 151 days, with completion scheduled for November 3.
The new route will begin near Restaurante Rocha Mar, following the EM530 municipal road and Rua do Algarve Clube Atlântico, and ending at the Praia do Carvalho parking area. Built on the northern side of the road, the path will be about 1.6 metres wide, paved in porous concrete for comfort, durability and drainage, and painted in red.
According to the municipal council of Lagoa, the new path will be especially important as it will mark the completing of a continuous path between Praia do Carvoeiro and Praia do Carvalho, a “long-awaited” project that is now coming to fruition.
“This is yet another firm step towards building a more accessible, modern and environmentally-friendly municipality,” says Lagoa mayor Luís Encarnação. “Our investment in soft mobility aims to respond to the needs of those who visit us and live here and also marks a commitment to sustainability and the life quality of future generations.”
The initiative is part of Lagoa’s broader strategy to encourage sustainable mobility, in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. Other recent efforts include a new walking path between Poço Partido and Areia dos Moinhos, nearing completion; the planned route connecting Estômbar to the Ponte do Charuto; and a future path between Lagoa and Praia do Carvoeiro, now under development.
