The municipal council of Lagoa has expanded its network of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in a bid to offer more potentially life-saving support to residents and tourists.
In addition to the 14 devices already in place across municipal buildings, sports venues and cultural establishments, the council has installed eight new defibrillators “strategically across local parishes”.
Says the council, the move “increases coverage and ensures faster response times in cases of cardiac arrest, directly benefiting local communities.”
To complement the rollout, around 60 people from municipal staff and GNR officers to local citizens have received specialised training on how to use the equipment. More training sessions are planned, as the more people who know how to operate the devices, the greater the chance of saving lives, the local authority stresses.
“Every minute counts,” the council says. “Preparing the people of Lagoa means saving lives and making it a safer and more protected municipality.”
