Lagos announces new €10 million health facility

New Outpatient Unit is set to significantly improve primary health care in Lagos

The municipal council of Lagos has announced plans to build a new High-Resolution Outpatient Unit, aimed at expanding and upgrading the current health centre facilities.

The ambitious €10.5 million project will see the construction of a modern two-storey building packed with new services: a day hospital, speciality consultations and exams, outpatient surgeries, paediatrics, a diagnostics centre, oral health, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, and a university health centre. Patients can also expect upgraded support areas like waiting rooms, admin offices, and parking, the council says.

Though the municipality is footing half the bill upfront, much of the funding comes via the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Plan, and officials hope to recover some of the cost later.

Construction of the new health facility is the responsibility of the local council, while its management will continue in the hands of the Ministry of Health.

Says the council, this investment is just one piece of a larger big-spending puzzle, which includes €48 million for affordable housing, nearly €12 million in school upgrades, nearly €11 million on water efficiency, and €4.6 million for business space development.
