Legend to give a little help to his friends

ROCK LEGEND Joe Cocker has confirmed that he will be in the Algarve from next Thursday (July 19) until July 22 for the international motorbike convention, in Vale das Almas, next to Faro airport.

He is due to perform in front of many thousands of people as the convention attracts an average of 40,000 bikers to the Algarve’s capital city every year.

Other artists due to perform include the bands Orishas and Blasted Mechanism as well as Portuguese singer Rui Veloso. Hungarian band Kiss Forever and Spanish group Urbe will also be part of the music line-up.

Artists from the international sand sculpture festival, FIESA, are planning to turn two truckloads of sand into a sculpture dedicated to the motorbike event.

The work will start at the beginning of the motorbike convention and the progress can be followed by all spectators.

Following the success of a free 24-hour bus service last year between the camp and the centre of Faro, which allegedly helped towards no road fatalities during the convention, the service will be provided again this year.

The system reduces traffic congestion in Faro and there are hopes that this year, there will not be any fatal traffic collisions.
