ALBUFEIRA’S JAZZ Festival starts next Friday, September 14 at 10pm in the Auditório Municipal de Albufeira.
The local Câmara is promoting the event, which is expected to include performances by three well known Portuguese jazz singers, Bernardo Sasseti, Marta Hugon and Jacinta.
Born in Lisbon in 1970, Sasseti is a famous pianist in Portugal where he has made a career especially with jazz bands and soundtracks for the cinema. At present, he is playing in a jazz trio with Carlos Barreto on bass, and Alexandre Frazão on drums. The trio is expected to open the festival on September 14.
The Marta Hugo Quarteto, scheduled to play on Saturday, September 15, is a group led by Marta Hugo and includes pianist Filipe Melo, bass player Bernardo Moreira and drummer André Sousa Machado.
Jacinta, who is expected to perform on the last day of the festival, Sunday September 16, is also a very well known singer for Portuguese Jazz lovers. She was the first Portuguese jazz singer to record with Blue Note Records, one of the best jazz record companies in the world. Entrance to the festival is free.
